Community Development
The discovery of the gas at Lhok Sukon was followed by the establishment of the PT Arun plant. This was then followed by the PT Asean Aceh Fertilizer, PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda (fertilizer plant) and PT Kertas Kraft Aceh (paper mill). These companies and potentially more have developed an industrial zone in North Aceh Regency.

The establishment of large industries among the traditional community has brought socio-economic changes which require careful handling in order to make these changes beneficial to the community.

Through its community development, PT Arun has been directing well planned programs according to specified priorities: Education, Religion, Health, Youth Activities, Sports and Culture.
The achievement of these community development programs include the following :
  • Upgrading of 240 kilometers of road.
  • Recruitment of visiting lecturers for the technical faculty of the Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh.
  • Construction of kindergarten, elementary and secondary schools (SD, SMP, SMA, MIN & MIS) in the North Aceh Regency.
  • Building of the local market at Batuphat.
  • Donation of materials to voluntary groups for building Mosques, Islamic study centers and Islamic boarding schools in the North Aceh Regency, as well as in other Aceh province regions.
  • Building and operations of a civic mission clinic for local community people.
  • Sponsoring of sports, cultural events and other youth activities.
